August 2017

I can’t believe August is over already...such a busy month it felt like it was over in five minutes. We completed fourteen bookings within the month nine weddings (four with the photo booth) and a photo booth booking on its own (which was also a wedding). September is much quieter, even though we have 11 bookings I do get two weekends off. Something I am very much looking forward to.

So what else have we been doing? In a word? Planning. Anyone who reads these posts will know I always write about all the little projects I have going on and the little ideas I have. We have recently joined The Kent Wedding Centre amongst many other benefits this will give the business a base. We will be looking to hold client meetings there; having looked around the centre and spoke to a few people who work there I think this will be perfect. We will looking to move in this week, all the marketing is in place and would you believe I have even ordered office furniture.

Another big challenge has been re-branding the company; everything will still be the same we just want to have everything under one umbrella. I have wasted a lot of time and money separating the businesses at the beginning of the year when I should have been concentrating on making the company bigger. As I have said before we are as much a photo booth company as we are a DJ business and vice-versa. We now need to appear that way. So every piece of literature and communication needs to reflect that and from now on it will.

Solo Booth. A word that brings me out in a cold sweat. Once again I have written about the many challenges this project has brought us. When I purchased the booth I knew it would be a difficult, bringing a brand new product from America that no one has ever seen before was always going to be hard work. I never expected the challenge to be as big as it has been. Firstly we got the marketing all wrong, I named it badly and even against my better judgement I knew Solo Booth wasn’t the correct name. I didn’t give myself enough time to think and rushed the whole project; from there on in we were on the back foot. The problems then become much bigger after that, software issues, printer issues, lighting issues and camera problems to name only some of them. Those that work alongside me will know I came very close to throwing it across the room at an open day once. Needless to say the whole thing has left me feeling a little disheartened. The saddest part is we have phenomenal product to promote and I failed to do it correctly. So with this in mind, it was time for a re-think. We will now be promoting this much more simply and giving it a new name. The marketing has already started and the video shoot is being completed on the 15th September. We need to get this product seen by as many people as we can...once we do it can finally take off.

I have made the decision to take a bit of a back seat with the DJ side of the business and only work Saturdays from next year. I will of course still complete all the bookings already taken. While this may appear a risky move it has been a decision I have thought about for a long time. The people who work alongside me are great I trust them completely so it’s now time they take on more responsibility. We will be looking to expand the photo booth business next year plus we are looking to take on a few new products. This additional income will make up for the loss in earnings plus by sharing the responsibility I don’t have to work so many hours. Meaning I can have a little more time for a social life.

So plenty going on...until next time.
